The Faceless Are Rejoined By Original Vocalist and Bassist, Share New Song, and Announce New Album and Tour Dates

There’s been a lot of recent activity in The Faceless camp lately… Where shall we begin?

Planetary Duality fans can rejoice. The vocalist and bassist from the group’s successful 2008 record have returned to the lineup. The Faceless have gone through quite a number of lineup changes over the years, the only constant being the multi-talented Michael Keene. With the return of Derek Rydquist (vocals) and Brandon Griffin (bass), this will hopefully create some consistency in the lineup. Planetary Duality has been my favorite release from the group. Their 2012 album, Autotheism, didn’t really appeal to me too much. No offense towards Keene; I admire the drive to continue The Faceless and push the sound in a bit of a different direction, it just unfortunately wasn’t what I had hoped for.

You can hear this restored lineup on a new song that is out now. “The Spiraling Void” is a callback to what made Planetary Duality great and then some. Rydquist and Keene’s vocals battle back and forth over the track that features a very appreciated progressive section over their known tech-death style. The dual vocals create an interesting mixture of elements from Planetary Duality and Autotheism. It should be safe to assume this song will appear on their forthcoming album, In Becoming A Ghost. There is no official release date for the album yet. With a tour looming, there is a high possibility this album has been a secret this whole time and will be released shortly.

Speaking of a looming tour. The Faceless will head out on the road with support from After the Burial (their first tour since the tragic loss of Justin Lowe), Rings of Saturn, and Toothgrinder (an absolutely awesome band. Get there early if you go to the show). The tour will kick off November 5th, dates are posted below.
