One of my greatest discoveries of 2013 was Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats. How I wasn’t aware of them before they released Mind Control is beyond reason, but what matters now is I have found them and can enjoy their glorious music. The Cambridge, England quartet specialize in a psych/doom metal that harkens to the days of Black Sabbath, when metal was first forged.
The group announced today the upcoming release of their newest album, which will be called The Night Creeper. The album, due for release on September 4, appears to have a loose theme based on a dark, seedy setting for a horror film. K.R. Starrs was quoted as saying,
“The idea is that this album could have started life as an old cheap, grime-covered 25 cent pulp paperback like the type sold at news-stands outside train stations. But then perhaps it is adapted into a film noir, which itself is then re-made twenty years later as an ultraviolent, slasher Italian Giallo film. The album follows this aesthetic lineage as it descends from trash to noir to something discernibly darker…”
This would not be the first time Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats have dabbled in a concept album. Their last release, Mind Control, followed a narrative about a cult leader who brainwashes his followers into a life of debauchery and lust. The idea for this album leads me to believe it will be a little darker than their last one. No matter how it sounds, it is for certain it will definitely be worth owning.
