A Guest Article: The Weeknd Releases Two New Singles

In The Amalgam’s first “Guest Article”; I thought it would be a nice honor to give it to my youngest brother, Bailey, for an opportunity to flex his writing muscles.

The Weeknd’s followers were treated to his first single since “Earned It” in December 2014 for the Fifty Shades of Grey film. The Weeknd, coming off his second studio album, Kiss Land, which dropped in May 2013, has yet to release any word if a third album is in the works.
On May 27, 2015 “The Hills” was released. A song related to others on Trilogy and Kiss Land. Tesfaye describes his affairs with equal involvement between the woman and himself. The lyrics give the sense Tesfaye has a schedule for women and the best time is when he’s high because “that’s the real me.” This isn’t surprising since Tesfaye has always been incredibly verbal about his drug use. Regardless, The Weeknd continues to discuss the life of women and drugs.

On June 8, 2015, The Weeknd released “Can’t Feel My Face.” The Weeknd never released a song that sounded so closely to Michael Jackson before. Tesfaye has stated Michael Jackson is one of his main inspirations, so it’s possible he could be paying respect to the late MJ. I fell in love with this song because the chorus and beats are likeable and it provides an “MJ-ish” side of Tesfaye. “Can’t Feel My Face,” describes his relationship with drugs but chooses to state them as a “she,” which can give insight to how he views drugs.

It is safe to say his followers are incredibly happy The Weeknd is releasing new music. A bigger question arises, when will there be word on a third studio album?
